Hydrogel to Lower Humidity

National University of Singapore

The National University of Singapore has developed a novel coating that could potentially reduce the relative humidity in an outdoor environment from as high as 90 per cent to a more comfortable 60 per cent. The coating is made out of two separate layers. The outer layer has the ability to absorb water moisture from the air better than the existing desiccant materials commercially available (e.g. silica gel and calcium chloride) by up to eight times.
