Enhance the Network of Trauma Support for Children

Partner(s)

KK Women's and Children's Hospital

This programme aims to enhance the trauma support network for children. Implemented by KKH's Psychosocial Trauma Support Services (PTSS) unit, the programme will develop the trauma support pedagogy for pre-school children aged 2 to 6 as an extension of the existing "Be The LIGHT" model developed by the PTSS unit for children aged 7 to 18 who have mild to moderate trauma. The aim is to prevent an escalation of symptoms and to help the child develop resiliency.

To enhance the trauma support network for children, the programme includes training 150 pre-school educators from anchor pre-schools, and 10 community practitioners as Master Trainers, and organising them within a trauma-informed developmental framework so that they can respond effectively to children during emotionally distressing events.

450 pre-school children will be supported under this pilot. If successful, this model of care will be the first evidence-based trauma-support pedagogy developed for children aged 2 to 6.
