FRENZ was a mentoring and school social work programme for ITE students. The programme was initiated by 4PM (Persatuan Persuratan Pemuda Pemudi Melayu) to help youth build resilience, develop character and complete their post-secondary education.
The various ITE colleges nominated classes for participation in FRENZ. Trained counsellors from 4PM attended lessons with the youth in these classes. By coming alongside the students, the counsellors were better able to understand the challenges faced by these students and provided timely support.
Casework was provided for students with more complex needs requiring longer-term support. Through this whole-class approach, students were better able to relate and identify with the counsellors who are journeying with them.
Outside of the classroom, volunteer mentors from 4PM engaged and bonded with the students through activities such as outings, community outreach events, and charity work. Where needed, the mentors help link students with their families and school counsellors.
