The SMRT - Temasek Foundation AED on Wheels is a three-year pilot programme to improve the community's response rate and time to out-of-hospital cardiac arrest cases, as well as to establish taxis as first responders to provide AEDs and assistance. 100 SMRT taxis were equipped with AEDs to increase the availability of AEDs in the community. Participating taxi drivers were also trained to perform CPR and use an AED.

In the event of sudden cardiac arrest, an AED could be delivered quickly to the scene, thereby improving the chances of survival for the victim. The programme to 'mobilise' AEDs through taxis on such a scale was a first-of-its-kind in Southeast Asia.
