The competition aims to develop the performing skills of young musicians, identify promising new musical talents, as well as to promote the appreciation of Chinese Orchestral music. The set pieces for the competition feature Nanyang-themed works.

Other than solo and ensemble categories, the competition will expand to include educational institutions and community Chinese Orchestras, and provide them with a professional platform to perform and be assessed.
