Studies have shown the importance of touch in pre-term babies with weak immune systems and under-developed lungs. When held and touched regularly, their vital signs often improved and they have better developmental outcomes.
To support the growth and development of preterm, sick and neglected babies at KKH's neonatal wards, the pilot programme will train seniors in therapeutic touch, and engage them to help care for vulnerable babies alongside hospital nurses and family members.
Over 1,200 babies are expected to benefit.
