Plastic straws are a major contributor to plastic waste pollution. The sheer volumes involved, the nature of the product (one-use, almost on a daily basis), and the high incidence of leakage from our waste management systems make straws particularly problematic. RWDC will produce single-use drinking straws made from a biopolymer called polyhydroxyalkanoates. The key objective of the project is to replace single-use plastic straws with a certified biodegradable straw.
