“In my district, there were (about) 3,500 casualties. More than 90% of homes were dismantled. At that time, we thought we had to do something.” Mr Chuda Mani Bhandari, was at home with his family when the Nepal earthquake occurred on 25 April 2015.
The earthquake caused great loss to the community. While the grit and strength of the Nepalese people has helped the community through the aftermath, for Mr Bhandari, who is the Chief of Health Emergency Operations Centre at Ministry of Health and Population, Nepal, the earthquake highlighted the need for the community to be more resilient and prepared during times of emergency.
Journey with Mr Chuda Mani Bhandari and Nursing administrator Hira Kumari Niraula from the National Academy of Medical Sciences at Bir Hospital, Nepal, who were here in Singapore on a programme to share experience and knowledge in the area of disaster-preparedness.
A collaboration between Temasek Foundation and SingHealth, the programme connected health care leaders and specialists from Nepal and Singapore for participants to learn more about Singapore’s experience in managing major medical emergencies.
