Empowering Youths to Engage Constructively Online with Persons in Distress
Temasek Foundation is partnering suicide prevention agency Samaritans of Singapore (SOS) to educate young Singaporeans on how to engage safely online with those who are at risk of suicide, using #chatsafe guidelines developed in Australia and adapted to our local context.
Against the backdrop of an increase in calls for help arising from the pandemic, SOS and Temasek Foundation jointly launched the ‘#PauseBeforeYouPost’ campaign. This three-month-long campaign empowers people to reach out to those in distress constructively by equipping them with the skills and awareness to conduct safe conversations around suicide and mental health online. The social media campaign had over 2.5 million views.
In addition to the ‘#PauseBeforeYouPost’ campaign, Temasek Foundation is also supporting the development of a #chatsafe training curriculum and the training of youths and caregivers to arm them with the relevant skills and knowledge to engage positively with suicide-related online content and to support those in distress around them.
